Default RE: what is this part?

looks to me to be a starter relay.

Assuming that it is you would check it by hooking 12v to one small tab, and ground to the other. It should click. If no click, then its bad. If it does click you measure across the big terminals to make sure there is continuity between them with it powered up, and no continuity when there is no power on the small terminals. If there is always continuity, or never continuity then its bad.

Looks like a muffler bearing. Or possibly a headlamp fluid pressure release solenoid.

i don't think it is anything to do w/ the muffler it connected to the battery w/ pos. and neg. terminals and attached to that was a 30A fuse.

but thanks for the thought.

And another intelligent answer. Take it back to grade school, answer if you have something to add.

Looks to me like some sort of relay. If we could find out where in your bike you found it we can give you a better answer.(front, back, under the seat, behind headlights, ect...) (It could be starter relay, turn signal relay, ect...)

...

Default RE: what is this part?

thats odd looking for sure, definately resembles a relay, and could be an older style capacitor/diffuser. But more than likely, its another fuse, an in-line type.Where did you pull that from? do you know anyone with a repair manual?
