What Eats 929 Stators?

OK everyone, I have now eaten two stators on my 2001 929. The first was OEM I believe, so original on the bike. It died during Laguna Seca MotoGP weekend, so like 3 months ago. I replaced it with an Electrosport aftermarket stator, and everything seemed OK, until my battery started slowly dying. I thought that my battery may have gotten raped when my stator died before, as it really discharged 100% and drained it. I got a new battery, and now this one is also discharging, albeit much more slowly.
So I test my voltage, I'm getting 12.2V at idle, 12.8V at 5K rpm, not nearly enough. I ordered an R/R because I thought thats what would have gone next, but before I put the new R/R in, I decided to measure the voltage coming from the stator... 12VAC, 9VAC and 5VAC on the 3 phases![](http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/images/smilies/a.gif)

So I took off the stator cover, and discover another, blackened and charred stator. Now the bike runs with it, for now, and since its my only transportation I kinda need to keep riding it, charging my battery on a tender before it completely discharges.
My question is, before I replace this stator (I think electrosport has a 1 year warranty) is, what the F*** eats stators!?? Will a bad R/R do this to me? If I put in my new R/R with my new stator, will everything be happy?

its the domino effect. you have 3 main components to your electrical chargining system.
battery.stator.regulator. if any one of these fails it will but overdue stress on the other 2 components causing them to prematurely fail too. so yes if you had a bad stator it wouldve caused your R/R to go bad along with killing your battery.
best bet is to replace them all at the same time.
