Default What coating is on the inside of the head light lens?

Long story short - I had HID's installed. Over the course of a year, the tip of the bulb just barely rubbed against the back of the reflector, creating a powder. Took the headlight assy off and attempted to use compressed air to blow it out. Got most of it, but not to my satisfaction. Used some distilled water to get the rest out when all the sudden some film started peeling off the inside part of the clear lens. I kept rinsing/shaking the unit until I got most of it off, but now the lens has a shade of white if looked at by an angle that is going to aggravate me. What was that? I'm tempted to split the housing (what temp do you guys usually use to help with the tack putty?) and clear coat it.

Cheers,
Joe
