98 is a f3... if your going to need parts and such then you might be better off to go with an f4.. which is 99 and 2000. It's alot easier to find mods and thing for these bikes, if you step up another year 01.. its an f4i and they are very common. Any honda should last a long time as long as you take care of it.
you can look at it two ways... put a little more into the initial investment and save money on maintenance costs. I know people on here who have got f4i's for under 4000. One thing you want to look out for if your buying an older bike is how many miles are on it. They need valve adjustments around 15-20k i think. Mine only has 8k and its an f4
Yeah Looking On Ebay Now Think Im Going Towards The F4 Like Yours.. What Do They Usually Go For Price Range? For Stock Or Maybe Just Exhaust?? Not Sure What Low Miles Is For That Year..1999-2000
bro if you haven't ridden a bike yet then don't think about racing just yet... as soon as you get your bike... it owns you... you have to respect that. My buddy has a 01 gixxer... they are about the same.. i've never actually raced him tho. One of the main differences is he has fuel injection where an f4 is carb. He gets a tiny bit better response and cold start ups are nice with it too. A 99 and 00 are the same for f4.
The price totally depends on where you live. I live in Canada... so generally i pay a lot more than anyone in the us will pay. Anything under 10k is low miles imo.. but like i said.. hondas will last an extremely long time. If it has larger miles on it then make sure you see receipts for the valve adjustment/tunes.

Yeah Not Going To Race It, I Understand The Bike Will Own Me I Was Just Curious.. Thanks For The Info... How Do You Like The Carb Setup? Whats The First Fuel Injecton Year 2001?
yeah its an 01. Thats the f4i model. i for injection. I don't mind the carb.. i don't have much experience with bikes to start off with but i ran seafoam through it when the idle was rough and it helped clean the carbs.
if it's your first bike, i wouldn't go any bigger than a 600. they are pretty quick and handle a lot better than most of the bigger bikes, especially for a newer rider. as far as keeping up with other 600's, in my experience, the cbr does very well. most are within sucha small time from each other that the rider makes most of the difference anyway. i used to ride with a cbr900 and a gsxr1100. they might have pulled from me in a straight line, but i could loose them both in the twisties.
considering your price range, you should be able to find a bike in pretty decent shape. my f2 is mint withless than 18,000 miles on it. i'm sure it would go for close that price range if i sold it straight out. something like that may be what you should look for ratherthan a newer bike that has issues and has been abused, which puts it in that price range.either way, just don't jump on the first bike that you see. check out a few, and ride them, and you'll soon get a better idea of what you should be getting for your money.
