Hello All,

I'm riding a 2001 CBR 929rr and recently discovered a pretty significant oil leak and judging by the location of the leak that it was coming from around the water pump. Not sure what the previous owner did when putting it back on the motorcycle, but it seems to be leaking around where the o-ring is and meets the casing and just dripping down the pump. It only leaks after about 10 minutes and the oil drip sheet showed only one area (below the pump).

I ended up just getting a new water pump and o-ring/gasket and want to know if it's recommended to put any type of sealant around the o-ring or where the water pump's two parts come together.

Shouldn't have to if the surfaces are clean and smooth.

But a little bit of silicone sealant around the o ring can be good insurance.
