Want your opinion....
Many of you have seen my latest paint job, my all-flat black 600RR. However, here's my problem. The bodyshop was supposed to sand all the old paint off, smooth, primer, and repaint. Now i've noticed the last month that the paint has been bubbling in places, and a spot has chipped off on the right fairing and what do you know----it's metallic chamelion blue with metal flake underneath!!!! Now either i mysteriously have the coolest plastic ever put on a CBR, or they didn't sand off the old paint at all, which pisses me off. Should i ask to get the whole thing repainted? Should i have to pay? What do you guys think?

If the bodyshop told you they would do it one way, and it was not done that way, I would ask them to redo it, free of charge of course. If they refuse, pitch the biggest f***in' fit in front of alot of customers. They won't like that. Do you have anything in writing? If so, check that out. If none of that works, I have had a lot of success with the better business bureau.
I'd take it back....sanded or not it shouldn't be doing what it is. Please keep in mind that sanding does not remove the old paint, so it is possible that they did do what they said. I did body work for a number of years and most bubbling and chipping is caused by the surface not being completely cleaned and oil free prior to painting. I could be something as simply as the painter or his prep guy putting his hand there and not re-cleaning the surface. In any case I'd think they stand by there work, good luck and let us know how it went. If they don't do you right, post who they are on the site so that anyone in your area knows their rep.
What do you mean by "doesn't remove the paint"? Not accusing you of being wrong, it's just that any time i've sanded any of my plastic that i've painted or had painted, i sanded the paint off down to the plastic.......or am i nuts??

I won't go as far as to say your nuts, but its the same on plastic as it is on sheet metal; you'd never take the paint all the way down to the metal, unless your having to use bondo to fix something. If you did, even down to the plastic, you'd have some serious scratch marks that would have to be dealt with, most likely by several coats of high solids primer. When sanding for repainting, you simply want to break the glaze, and have a matte smooth surface to shoot over. The most common cause of bubbling or fisheyes, is that there is a foreign subtance on that spot, could be as simply as oils from your skin, moisture in the paint gun, etc. the biggest problem I see here is that the paint is coming off completely in these areas, makes me wonder how well the surface was prepped and whether or not the temperature was appropriate for painting...it can't be to cold or too hot...and i'd suspect too hot may be the case here as it causes the outside of the paint to dry quicker than the underside. In any case, any reputable paint shop should stand behind their work; and I personally wouldn't be happy unless they were going to re-prep and re shoot the whole bike....
Well good news, their gonna paint the whole bike again for free to my color of choice.....i picked a new color, and i'm droppin the plastics off in the mornin-----i'll have pics up soon!! Thanks for the help guys!
