urethane paint?
gonna repaint my bike (yes im doin it myself) I need to know whats a good paint that is flexible? i have been thinking about nason urethane, what all do i need besides hardener and reducer and what type of primer works best with our plastic? and the final top coat also?
Use a decent epoxy based high build primer. The high build will hide minor scratches and imperfections in your plastics and will allow you to sand it and feather others out. If you use a single stage then most require a hardener and reducer but whoever you buy the paint from will know what it needs and in what ratio's. Base coat clear coat systems generally are 1:1 paint to reducer for the base coat and then the clear usually only needs a hardener. Make sure you have an air dryer on your line before the gun or you will have orange peel everywhere on your bike. Take your time, mix your paint properly, scuff the plastics with a scotch brite pad before you begin, and then use a 500+ grit paper to sand your primer. Painting is a very difficult yet rewarding task. If you have any other questions you can pm me if you want. I do it for a living.
One thing I forgot to mention. Get a flex additive for the paint wether you go single stage or base/clear. It will give the paint more flex and make it less likely to crack. Also don't forget, thin paint will flex, thick paint will crack.
yea i got all my stuff now i am using 3m flexible adhesive to mold the plastics together and i am using flexible additive from SEM for the paint...i called sem and they said to mix the primer the same as the paint...i am using autobody master buff primer and i am using an enamel paint because this is kind of a stunt bike
