Default swapping engines

just wandering if anyone knows if a 1989 engine will go into a 1987 frame. have blown the 87 engine but can only get a later type engine and I know they are different but how they are different I dont know and nor do honda

Do you mean a 98 engine into a 97 frame? cos if so, it will fit.

I think that he's asking if the 87 will take the 89 engine. If thats the case then yeah, go for it and keep what you can for spares as these may be useful later on. Ensure that you check the mileage. What part have you blown? as you may not have to do as much work if its only the head, as you can leave the gearbox in and work from the top. On the other hand if your prepared to do a rebuild and refurbish all moving parts then be sure that you dont run into problems by trying to cut corners. Maybe you intend just droping the 89 straight into the frame, hopefully its a good runner with low mileage. Let us know how you get on.
