Sudden Loss of Power
Hi All.
Need some help on this one (HONDA CBR 600 F3 1997)
Went for a hour ride (all good)
Stopped at Petrol station and they only had 98. Filled up.
Rode back another hour everything seemed normal. (power good)
Towards the end of the ride bike stared to back fire and by the time i reached home it was like running on 2 cylinder and back firing. Thought is was the petrol, emptied tank put normal petrol in but still no power.
I have changed coils, both left and right but the entire firing seems all out of whack. I then replaced the ignition pulse and still the same.
can anyone confirm the firing sequence for an 600 F3 97.
some say its 1234 from the left others say 1243 from the left.
left coil power 1 -4 and right coil 3 -2 ??
is this correct?
is there anywhere else that could cause this symptom?
was the petrol octain to high?
Any help would be appreciated

I think Ive got it!
left coil powers 2 and 3
right coil powers 1 and 4
and looking at the motor left to right its 1 2 4 3
I also discovered the initial issue of backfiring which lead me to change the plugs, coils and pulse - ready for it?
......... it was a little bolt on side of engine that fell of on the highway, not sure if its a vacuum hole? anyways without it i could feel small blowing coming out of it when I increase the revs, i pinched the same screw from my F2 plugged it and all beautiful again.!!

right coil powers 1 and 3 cylinder
left coil powers 2 and 4
cylinder from left to right are
1 2 4 3
Hope this helps somebody
are you counting the Pistons left to right this way 1 2 4 3 ?
cause if do 1 & 4 and 2& 3 this way it's really bad
but
when I hook up
right coil 1 and 3 and left coil 2 and 4 it seems everything firing well . ??
1-2-3-4 from the left. Firing order 1-2-4-3
But regardless. Any I4 that runs 2 coils will have 1&4 together and 2&3 together.
Those cylinders move up and down with each other. When 1 is on the compression stroke, 4 is on the exhaust stroke. The coil that powers 1&4 is firing every 2 strokes. So, when the spark hits on #1's compression stroke, its also firing on #4's exhaust stroke. This is what's called "wasted spark". Its easy to program a CDI to do it, and its really efficient. And its very common for dual coil i4s to have this setup.
The same thing is going on with 2&3 just at a different time based when on their engine position.
So, something must still be wrong. The way you have your wiring, you'd gave a twin cylinder motorcycle, 2 cylinders would not be firing...
Also, searching the forum, it seems that 1&4's coil needs to have the yellow wire w/blue stripe, and 2&3's coil needs a blue wire w/ yellow stripe..
