ive noticed that when i go to work on the freeway im doin 85 roughly to keep up with traffic i know that factory speedometers are not correct and can be off up to 10% so i got a speedohealer from healtech electronics, has anyone put one of their bike and know off hand what the calibration setting should be for a 2008 cbr 1000rr to save me the time of doin runs up and down the road with a gps, thanks for the help.

 

best way is to do the calculations for your own bike (tires, sprockets, etc)

Zero the odometer at a mile marker. Ride 10 miles (the longer the better but for example).

Look at the odometer - if the odometer days 11.8 miles it has read 1.8 miles more than you have ridden -- or 18% (ten tens to the hundred, 1.8 * 10 = 18 %) error.

In that example you'd set the speedohealer to -18

Alternatively you can use a gps but that is trickier as it is hard to hold a steady speed, look at a gps and not crash into a car infront of you.

I don't see why it would harder to use a gps if you have one. thats what I used, and it worked out great. One run for 3 minutes is all it took to get an accurate reading. No wondering if the calculated speed was right or not, as I new exactly what it was suppose to be. I used a lanyard cable attached to the gps, left it hanging around my neck, once I was under way down the highway, I simply rested my left arm across the tank and held the gps in that hand. I held it right in front of my speedometer, but could still see both the gps and the speedo.

Then its just simply taking the true speed, and divide it by the speedometer speed, and then subtracting one from that. that gives you the SH calibration number.

such as, if your speedometer reads 60 mph, but your actual speed is 52. You take 52 divide it by 60 which gives you .866 then subtract one from that.. gives you -.133.. or enter -13

After checking again with the gps. My speedometer just hits 60mph while the gps reads 59.8. It was 11 mph off though. I have a -1 +1 set up.

if you go to the speedohealer website, they have downloads of different equations you can use to get the correct SH number.

 

I have the same bike and year. I installed a SpeedoHealer on mine several months ago. I read a trustworthy source on another forum who said he set his at 6.7% correction so that's what I put mine at.

I haven't verified it with a friend's GPS yet but it seems really close. Those little portable highway "Your current speed" displays now exactly match what my speedometer shows.

 

i did the miles way and the gps way and used the online calculator from healtech to configure and it and came up with -6.7% also so i set it at that and checked it with gps and it was dead on up to 95 i didnt check above that

 

Interesting that two different owners who did their own testing came up with the exact same figure to use for the error correction. Although I didn't use any scientific testing I feel that mine is perfect at -6.7% and I probably will not need to verify it with my friend's GPS.

Did you also install the top speed recall button? I didn't add it to mine (yet) although since it retains the top speed attained forever, or until you reset it, I know I can remove the seat and check it if I'm ever curious.

 

yeah i installed the top speed recall button i didnt run it up to the handlebars tho i snipped the wires and made it about an inch and a half long and plugged it in if i ever want to use it.

i went -1 +2 on my 600 so my % makes no difference but i set mine by gps.. then my buddy tested it with radar gun runnin 80 down interstate and clocked bridges, sign etc.. i also installed the button under the seat
