could be lots of things...ordinary valve chatter, leaky exhaust, etc...

Other names for this are "pinking", "pinging" and "spark knock". I am guessing you're using gas with octane of 95, if so, then go for 98. Severe knock could damage the engine. Good luck.

I used to be concerned about every little sound too. I kinda felt that my finel- tuned-samura- sword-of-a-motorcycle should run like a fine Swiss watch. In the end, I figured out that any production engine will give off a cacophony of ticks, tocks, buzzes, etc. Just wear a helmet like you should be and the only thing you will hear is the breeze. (it even drowns out some of the irritating cct noise too.)

pinging issues like that is not a known issue with the F4i...as it was in the 1KRR when the first came out...the bike in question is an F4i.

as far as the F4i...potential causes are valve chatter, which you can try and control with different oils...but only to a point...some F4is just have chattery valves but are still in spec., cctl which is just noisy and slight ticking isn't so bad, and slight exhaust leaks, at the header and block area.
