Default "Shop Materials" cost....

Relatively upset that after agreeing to take my bike in for major service that I was told after agreeing to the service that there was a $39 shop materials fee. I was told the charge for the service would be $426 + parts... after agreeing to that fee, and giving a $400 cash deposit, I got a printed invoice which also had a $39 shop fee tacked onto it. The shop also is tacking on about $17 worth of shop material fees to their fee to mount and balance 2 tires which I am having done in addition to the major service for an additional fee. I was told that the $39 covered such costs as oil and coolant disposal.... Not sure it costs $39 to get rid of fluids. And not sure what shop materials I am paying $17 for to get a pair of tires mounted.

The most I have ever paid for shop materials to have work done on any car I have ever owned has been $9.

I am pretty close to calling to say that I want all the services cancelled and want my deposit back. $57 worth of shop materials? I have had a day to think more about it and plan to call them first thing tomorrow mornig prior to them beginning any work on the bike.

Anyone else have any input on this one?

Edit: Took a closer look at the invoice and the $39 states that it is for waste disposal on the major maintenance.

Also, I will be keeping the tires they pull off- so they won't be disposing them.

Tire disposal costs money. If they replace the valve stem, that costs money. What is your major service involving?

some of that tire mounting shop material may have been re-greasing the bearings.

buy/get the manual and do it yourself. All self respected bikers know how to work on thier own bike. Not to mention will save you a ton of cash u can spend on mods, and you will know your bike better.

I have the manufacturers service manual. I don't have the time between work and family responsibilities to invest the time needed for going through the major maintenance on thebike. I bought the bike about a month ago with about 14k on the odo. Right now it has about 15k on the odo and is probably due for some service- I don't know the service history on the bike having bought it from a dealer who had no records on the bike. The bike has had the sprockets changed on it at some unknown time in its past- so the mileage on it is higher than it shows, but I don't know by how much.I will be putting my own breaks on it within the next month.

And I don't have too much respect for myself... lol.
