Shop Bill
Hey guys. I'm wondering about the bill I got for a couple things my bike needed done.
Front brake pads.
Both front rotors. Wave rotors.
New chain kit.
$915 total bill.
Is this bill too high, or have you guys seen worse? I left the bike with them and they had to order the pads and rotors, so I'll get it back tuesday or wednesday. I havent had a chance to call around to see what other shops would quote me.

rotors EBC or Galfer are $225 each. So 450 right there. plus 100 for pads, up to 550. chain and sprocket kit, 200; so 750 in parts. 2-3 hours labor at 95/hour is another 225 for a quick total of 975. plus shop supplies, tax, etc.
Shops almost never install low grade parts, they are more headache than they are worth. And they sell parts at retail, so a 35-40 point margin, not at the near wholesale price you see online.

Ouch ! according to dirtyhands' quick tally it seems to add up but wow. Totals like that make me glad that I am able to do a lot of repairs/mtce on my own. Though in the end that would have only saved a couple hundred dollars. If you did get the higher quality parts , at least thats some peace of mind thrown in with the cost.

Nobody ever said going fast was cheap!
I work in the bicycle industry and run into the same mentality: why are bikes so expensive? And our rates are only $50/hour! The local MC dealership is in fact $95/hour, and their skill level is not that much different (we just let a successful auto technician go because he could not get up to speed in this industry {he was bewildered at the fact there is no documentation on servicing/repairing in this industry, nor any standard anywhere, nor any training available}, but not to say that auto/MC/any tech has a greater or lesser skill level in any industry, they are all different and separate skillsets)
If you bought new XT rotors, XT pads, chain, chainrings, cassette, and labor to install them (worn out brakes and drivetrain) it would be $325 in parts and $70 in labor. It all costs lots for good stuff!
