if i may add, you should also purchase a thin foam, from an art/fabric store, so once you complete shaving it down, all the imperfections will be even'd out by that thin foam.

I'm 5'2" and I stop with one leg down at a time, switch it to change gear and switch back. But the highest bike i've ridden has to be my buddies 2002 gsxr 600. It's too bad no one makes lowered aftermarket seats.

depending on the bike, you may be able to lower the front end by sliding the fork tubes up on the tree a little, my front end is lowered about an inch.. i'm 6' and well, it's unnecessary fo me, but my friend who'd 5'6 can reach the ground fairly well (88 hurricane)

Ive just heard that messin with forks (any suspension stuff) can make it ride bad, or something like that....is there any bad consequences to lowering the forks?

I haven'tfound any, and it's not an irreversible change.. so it's not like you can't go back

I just lowered my f4 an 1-1/2", and what a huge difference. I got the links form ebay for $30, lowered the forks to match, and cut the kick stand. To me the bike seems to ride just fine, but I am still a new rider. from what I can tell unless you plan to take the bike to the track with really sharp turns it should be fine. The big thing is that I was just to intimidated by the power and size of the bike and now it just feels so great. I just love to ride the bike now. I tried adjusting the suspension getting a Corbin seat and nothing else worked, plus you can always change it back if you dont like it.

i just shaved mine last week and for some reason it feels softer that it was before.
i bought an extra seat just in case i fudge it up.
make sure you shave from the bottom of the foam as it'll look
like sh*t if you trim the top. it's pretty easy to do, took me 1 hour
including stapling everything back on. make sure you use 1/4" long staples or less
if not you'll be poking your **** and thighs.

i'm only 5'6 and wasn't able to touch the ground before but now i can touch the ball
of my feet onto the ground. makes me feel more confident but once i'm use to it i'll
be putting on the higher seat as the previous owner got new skin for it.

http://www.itrocks.com/motorcycles/gel_seat.htm here's a link on how to shave you seat. I had the seat on my GS shaved and gel put in. It worked great.
Sorry if this is an old thread.
