Default selling bike with different tach?

I'm getting ready to sell my 01 F4i but I'm wondering how to go about proving the miles since I had to get a new tach last summer and the miles are at 15k when my bike really has 22k on it. When I bought the bike the title said 11k miles and that was accurate with the tach at the time of purchase. So technically I could say I only put 4k miles on it and it would be believable but I wouldn't feel good about selling someone a bike with that many miles thinking they are getting it with 15. I'm not sure how to explain or prove how many miles are actually on it tho without the old tach? I feel like any one I tried to explain the situation too would start to worry and question if I'm lying or hiding other things.

There's no way of proving it as the mileage stays recorded in the digital tach but you should come clean and explain the potential buyer the situation.

super600: As recommended, explain the situation. Then, tell the prospective buyer that you're willing to sign an affidavit for the odometer statement required by the DMV. That should be sufficient.

I personally would not volunteer that option, why would you want to take you clean titled bike and make it equivalent to a salvage? definently disclose the information to the buyer.

personally i would lie to the dmv and say its the correct tach... even if i bought the bike.

That's not how it works. Installing a new tach doesn't render a bike "salvage". Its simply called, a *corrected mileage statement* (or equiv at your particular dmv). Nothing more, nothing less.

i agree, i wouldnt tell the dmv. Keep the title completely clean and let the new owner know personally that the tach will always be 5k miles high.

officially yes. but trust me it hurts the value and makes it more difficult to sell, a blemished title is a blemished title to some people.
