Hey guys I have a 94 F2, and I am getting 100 miles till I have to switch to my reserve tank, so like 32-35 mpg arnt F2's suppose to get like 40-45 mpg. I just cleaned the carbs I had them synched before I cleaned them and they may be out of synch again. And I every now and then I think I can hear my cam chain making noise, so i ordered a manual cct today (dunno if this affects mpg or rpm's) I also bought a new battery and spark plugs when I got the bike. Could it have anything to do with the yoshimura the previous owner put on? Also my RPM's fluctuate about 200 RPM's while the bike idles. I do not know if it does this when riding or not, hard to tell. But I would really appreciate any suggestions. And I want to thank you guys for all the great advice I have gotten thus far, my bike is running and looking much better then it did when I got it.

I have the 600RR, and it's supposed to get 38-42mpg, but I usually manage 32-35 in the city. But it all depends on how you ride, time of year, wear on the engine, etc.
About the RPM's, the owners manual for the 600RR says idle is 1300 RPM give or take 100 RPM, so I'm sure that a 200 RPM difference at idle should be fine for a bike that's carbed and a 1994. Glad to hear it's still running strong though.
I've heard of people SeaFoaming their older bike engines. SeaFoam is an engine cleaner that you put into the vaccuum lines and it burns out all excess carbon build up. I've done it to my car engines, and it works wonders. It smokes like a mother though while you are doing this, and for a few hours after while you're driving/riding around.
Good luck man.

how long since valve adjustment?
for the idle fluctuation I would look into teh carb sync,I would also check for an intake leak. (just spray the boots that hold the carbs on to the head with carb clean while idling, if idle goes crazy when you spray a boot you have a leak)

A lot of maintainance things that people tend to ignore will lower your mileage. When was the lat time you lubed your chain? How's your airfilter look? How old are your plugs?
Here's a good one. When your tires were changed last, did the person who installed them follow proper procedures for seating the bearings, eliminating brake dragand setting proper torque on the axle nuts? Or did the just hog it on there. I worked at a BIG Honda dealer for a long time and rarely saw a torque wrench used on a tire job, but it does make a difference...

Ya I have heard good things about sea foam, I havnt seen it for sale, but im sure i can find it online. As for the valve adjustment I am not sure what kind of care the previous owners took but I doubt it has been done in its 18000 mile life. Also my chain does need to be lubed again, I got a new back tire chain and sprockets about 1500 miles ago, i had the shop put it on i dont know how well they did it. And my spark plugs are only like 2000 miles old, and I bought a K&N when i got the bike about 3000 miles ago almost a year ago now.
