RPM'S on expressway????
I have a Vortex rear sprocket on my 98 (43 tooth) same as stock, but when I am cruising at like 70-80 mph, my rpm's are between 7 and 8. Is that normal? I hate it because it cruises at such high rpm's. I feel like I need to constantly shift it. Is this common, and what can I do to fix it??? Should I change the sprocket to something else, maybe with less teeth??

That's normal... 600's are always would up at highway speeds. Mine is usally at 7500-8000 everyday on my commute to work, going 80-85 mph. But then again I'm gear up 3 in the rear too, but it's not too far off from what stock was... it was still up there in the RPM

I talked to a guy at work today and he told me that it was normal too. He blew out the bottom end of his motor from cruising at too low rpms. I've had it for like 2 yrs now, and I am just tired of the high rpms. I guess I'll have to just get used to it. Thanks for the response.

I am just tired of the high rpms.
I love that part! Haha, I smoke every bike in my city on curvies (except for one really, really skilled rider), and whenever I'm actually riding in a group ride, the people to my side and right behind me always ask, "dude, are you gonna shift your bike?"
I never leave 3rd gear in the city, always around 8K RPM's. BUT, that's the reason why none of them can smoke me (well that and a little bit of skill). Every time their bike hits around 5K, they shift. I'm kissing 12,5K every time I shift and not before. I always have a load of power just waiting.
So I say to you, get used to the high RPM's! You know, Harleys wrap out at like 6,5K... haha, j/k!
