your rear rotor may not be within spec. so he may be right. ask him why you need a new rear rotor.

Well the reason he gave me was that when one is bent the other tends to warp... and what about ebaying rotors... I found some used ones for 60$ front and back. If I can figure out how to install those should I just buy them? Thanks for the advice

as long as they're not warped and still in good condition i'd buy them. make sure to ask the seller what their SPECIFIC condition is, you could get burned if you're not careful (i know....).

rotors are easy to install, just a matter of getting the wheels off and putting some screws in. should be real easy if you got front and back stands. **** everyone should invest in a set of stands, makes working on the bike so easy.

Thanks for all the advice guys. It sounds encouraging but it seems like a lot of new tools to buy... do you think I should get front and back stands? and do you really need to buy seperate stands for the front and back, why not just do one tire then the other? i saw a chain tool for like 25$ then the stands were abou 120$ each. and what kind of tool does it take to get the tire off? Thanks again [sm=smiley14.gif]

to get the rear and front off, you just need standard socket wrench set and stands. if you're going to shell out for stands, handy stands work well for the rear, as for the front, i'd skip out on fork stands and go for the triple stands (or headstands, etc.) as you can do all maintenance you need for you bike rather than getting the front fork stands.

as far as chain tools, just make sure they can press the chain size you're going with.

I'm a mtorcycle technician and I've never heard of the rear rotor warping because the fronts are warped. I'd be a little wary of his reasoning, but if the rotor looks bad (grooves or bluing) go ahead and replace it. But keep in mind that you should always replace rotors and brake pads as a set so they wear in the same pattern.

A rear stand is almost a necessity for any bike owner. It is damn near impossible to do anything besides changing your oil without a good rearstand. And I would go with new rotors, not used from eBay, especially if you plan to have your bike for a while.
