Default Rotor bracket removal?

i've removed the rotor from the rim, however having difficulty removing the actual disk from the blackmount, there are 10 spool looking thing connecting the two together, maybe "buttons" would be describe them. Anyway i am having the black mounts powder coated, and need to sperate from the disk. So how do i take a part the button/spool thing's??

I dont think you can remove the disc from the mount. I think those are pressed on during assembly. I could be wrong, but I think they are permanant.

If your going to powder coat, just tape off the rotor. The tape will protect the rotor. You might want to remove the tape before baking though.

squids right....the buttons on stock rotors are semi-floating meaning, among other things, those buttons are not coming off....only way to get them off is to grind them down...which obviously means you can't reuse them....now if you had full-floating rotors, a lot of times those have a retaining clip and you can take the buttons off....but that is irrelevant for you....

as for powder, like i said squid is right...just have them tape off the rotors real good and you should be fine....the temp for PC is like 350 or 400 degrees...i am pretty sure the rotors have a higher operating temperature than that....so you should be fine....

I wouldn't powder coat them AT ALL
You're looking for problems...........
If the coating is only .005' out, you'll have excessive vibration, and have to grind it all off.
Potentially fatal move IMHO, but it's your bike, and your decision..........[X(]

I said the same thing in another thread, don't mess with your brakes.

their are some good points about not powdercoating at all. that is also my personal preference, but to each his own.

In any case, I forgot to mention that if you do powder coat, tape off your mating surfacesas well to avoid powder getting on them. this will eliminate the risk of adding any material to that surface and will keep your rotors in the correct spacing they were intended to be in. Also eliminating any chance of that surface becoming uneven.

mmk,, well thank you guys for the advice,, i don't make the connection how having the bracket painted would cause vibration. make you could explain the your reasoning behind it? in doing this i don't see myself "messing with the brakes." I have not altered the pads, or disks, nor have i changed the machcanics'. I was going for the hip hop hayabusa look. you've instilled enough fear in me not to though

If you powdercoat the rotors, the powdercoat will add a few thousands of an inch to the mounting surface where the rotor attaches to the wheel. It will more than likely not be an even build up, therefore causing the rotors to not be aligned evenly once they are botled back up and once the brakes are applied, you have a warped rotor effect. But, like I said, as long as you tape off that area so the powder doesnt stick to that area, you should be fine.

I think the reason you are going to see a lot of "dont do it" kind of responses here is most people on this forum mainly ride thier bikes, they really dont Bling them out. Im not saying not to, as its your bike and if you want to, I say go for it. I ride with a friend that has his bike completely chromedout, billetwheels and all. Yes, it adds weight and now the bike doesnt handle as well due to the heavy billet wheels, ( and man are they heavy) but its what he wants and he doesnt ride aggressive in the curves, so "his" ride isnt affected. Its all about personal preference. Not everyone is out for the same thing.

I agree with this. I'll say that I dont care for the powdercoating or chroming of rotors, since I"m not into that scene. but its your bike, and you're free to do as you will with it.

Thank you justasquid, i appricate your clearly presented honesty. you expliantion was what i needed to hear.

I am going to go ahead with the project, i love to ride, i put on 4k between july and early october, so i classify myself as one who rides vs pimps out his ride. I am just having some fun with this bike. i'll be sure to post a pic or two when it's all done.
