Could someone somewhat explain the difference in protection there is from textile to leather?

i would go with a reputable company that also makes gear for the track. this way you know that the stuff is at the very least track worthy.
as far as textile or leather, i prefer leather all the way. textile doesn't have the slide protection that leather does, unless you go with aerostich.
make sure it has CE certified pads...with hard armor, not just them soft CE pads.

i prefer spidi, dainese, ku****ani, if you have the bling. if not, alpinestars, teknic, joe rocket all offer good protection while not breaking the bank too much.

leather will save you and textile wont,as far as sliding anyway. There was a test done last year , and what transport canada did was fill a denim bag , textile bag and leather bag with sand, all the same as what u would wear on a bike. then they drove down a road and dragged all 3 on the pavement till it tore open. the textile did 10 feet, jeans did 14 and leather did almost 60 so u can take that as advice or just a story, its your skin , i trust leather

well, the money issue wasn't really a problem for me, like u guys said, it is my skin i'm trying to protect. But the only thing is, i thought ahead. I bought my bike in sept, so it was already getting cooler. So i looked around the dealer n looked at the joe rocket, liked it because it had a removeable vest inside for the hot summer days, and also it had vents in the front n vents in the back to keep u cooler. I didnt see one at all with the leathers. I know I know, if its too hot for gear, its too hot to ride. So knowing i prob won't wear the leather in the summer, i feel like i will wear my textile since there is ventilation to keep me cooler. Thats the main reason i went with a textile instead of the leather....

Leather = tougher protection when u slide
but not to contradict some textile/mesh jackets have nice CE protectors inside of them which will protect you good, especially the back.

make sure if fits snug, or else when your skin moves back and forth in the leather or even textile...it's like taking it to a belt sander...lots of nice burns you'll get.

also, beware of them 'mesh'...why? on another board (can't post link)...a rider was caught wearing one and when he crashed, it melted to his skin...

as far as leather being too hot...yea it's hot, but as long as you get one with good airflow...ALL GOOD MANG! just don't be stopping at lights and stuff...like cruising through traffic...cause the bike doesn't like that either.
