Just a light coat of grease on the axle will do you. As far as the bearings make sure they are greased trust no manufacture with your life. I use Royal Purple grease but any standard wheel bearing grease should do.

The purpose for grease on the axle is to protect it from rusting and having a bearing "race" get stuck on it. The inner "race" of the bearings doesn't spin on the axle. So, as Roboto65 says, just a lite coat on the axle.
