Default Rear Wheel Bearing...

Rear wheel bearing went out on my 2000 929CBRrr today, like all of a sudden going down the road. Had it trailered to the Honda dealer. Anything special I should ask of them while they're in there..ie: better bearing,....anything else. Cheaper to get it done while the wheel is off, etc.....TIA

See if they can be replaced with tapered roller bearings, instaed of ball bearings.
Tapered run cooler and distribute the load better.

Yea, I'd tell them to stop what they're doing and go get the bike back. This is a relatively easy job to do. The bearings can be obtained from a local bearing supplier for less than $10 total. Removing and replacing is an easy process too.

I don't really expect you to do that, but would like it if you post back up how much you have to pay them to do it. I'm guessing $20 per bearing and I'm guessing 1.5 hours of labor, which includes removing the wheel and putting it back.

My wife and I were on a road trip last year, riding back from Niagra Falls, Ontario. The rear wheel bearing failed about 50 miles outside of Bristol, TN. Make a long story short, I purchased 2 bearings for $8 and took the wheel to a local machine shop that charged me $20 to remove and replace them. I won't mention the name of the Harley Davidson shop that wouldn't even look at it (they don't work on metric bikes) since the local Honda dealer was closed on Tuesday, go figure.
