Rear seat latch issue
I have an 01 CBR 600 F4i. The rear seat wont open. I pried in there and saw that the cable has become detached from the locking mechanism. Has anyone had this problem, and how did u fix it? If I knew how the mechanism worked I might be able to just press in a certain area and pop it open.
Thanks

The part where the cable connects to gets pulled away from the housing when the latch is released. The little part dangling from the end of the latch needs to be pulled away from the latch and it will pop open. It works like a door latch, pull it and it disengages.
I tried to pull it...are you talking about the part that is facing towards the left side of the bike? I tried to hook it with a wire coat hanger, then I tried to pull it with a needle nosed pliers...nothing. If I could fine a diagram I could prolly figure it out...but there are none that I can find.
plus I am chewing up the padding on the under edge of the seat in an attempt to get leverage, so before I totally mess things up I'm better off taking it to the shop.
I should clarify...
. I know you can't get the tail "off" persay but you should be able to manipulate it enough to get to the cable. To see if I could do this, last night I pulled out the 4 retaining clips, & took off the two frankenstein bolts. Also, I removed the front seat. After that, I was able to move around the cowl enough to reach up in there w/a long screwdriver to pop the cable from its holder. Once I did that, I grabbed it w/ some long needle nosed pliers & viola. It was a huge pain but it can be done.
I needed to know how anyway, as I just did the F4i split seat conversion & don't yet have a new key lock. For now, I've just got a ziptie attached to the cable & running it out the keylock's hole in the battery tray.
Its not pretty but its working til I get a new keylock.
Anyway, good luck to you.
