Its aweful hard to suggest an opinion with very little to go on. If you could offer some more info, it would help. Such as, did it just start making the noise? always been there? how many miles?

Also, be careful to distinquish rattling or vibration. These bikes tend to make some rather noticable vibrations at that rpm, which can create some rattling noises. I'm sure you noticed how blury your rear view mirrors are at those rpms, everything else on the bike is vibrating just as much. Of course, rattling of a CCt is very different than the rattling of components from vibration. try to be a little more specific as to what the noise sounds like, it will help people diagnosis it better.

read this thread VERY carefully and lemme know if its the same noise that you have. It sounds like metal on metal vibration or keys hitting the triple tree and it seems like its coming from the front of the bike like the triple tree or speedo right?

Read the thread very carefully...lets see if it could be the same thing

it is the same thing. It sounds like a ratteling chunk a metal from the front end. It does it between 5-6k and if i shift before i hit 5k it does not make the noise, once i get to third gear or above i don't hear it. It's not normal as i have ridden 5 other cbr's and none made this noise. THe bike is 2003 600rr it has 16,500 miles and overall it's in very good shape. The oil level is fine and was just changed and can't find anything loose on the front end or anywhere. Its not the windscreen as it's stock and i took it off and rode it and it was the same. I did notice that when it makes the noise if i pull in the clutch and ease it out as well as roll on the throttle it stops. could it be the clutch? Also the bike pulls hard and performs just as you expect a cbr to. I don't beat on it i rarely go above 8k . i have put 800 miles on the bike since i noticed the noise when i got the bike it was winter but did not notice till about a month ago.

same problem as me man. Lots of people say its something under the tank and if you press down on the indentation on the front of the tank the noise should go away. It doesnt with me though.

Not sure if you read the end of the thread, but people suggested I ride without the fairings and see if the noise is still there. Im going to do that.

I swear it sounds like something inside the triple tree/ignition is rattling

here's one theory:

"The noise is the left upper part of the upper fairing vibrating and hitting the fairing stay and windscreen. Trust me, that is the issue. Remove the windscreen and your upper fairing, then ride. The noise will be gone."

I just have a hard time thinking that it is a fairing or windscreen vibration since it sound like a loose chunk of metal. I have heard rattleing before and i don't think this is the same, but i will try it out tomorrow if it don't rain here all day. I'll take off all the fairings and windscreen and let u know what happens.

i thougt it could be the horn since i had to take it off along with the radiator to change the spark plugs but it's all tight and on the way it should be. i'm thinking something to do with the clutch maybe, it might sound stupid but when i pull in the clutch and release it as i roll on the throttle it goes away, like i said it may be stupid to think that as i have some knowledge of my bike but i am far from an expert or mechanic. i just have no idea and it's driving me crazy and i'm trying think outside the box
