Default question on rear tire size for F2

ok so I am in the process of rebuilding a a 92 600F2. my inquiry would be, what is the widest rear tire that will fit the rim in between the swing arm. I know others have tried it and was curious of the outcome.

currently I have a 160/60 in the rear and it works well but could I go up to a 180/55? or is that to much meat?

much appreciated for the school lesson....

you can get a 180 on there.... but i think you should probably stick with the 160. if you can imagine it, fitting a bigger tire on the rear rim actually creates LESS of a contact patch than the 160 because of the fact that that wide of a tire "bubbles" out more than the 160 (which what your rear rim was designed to have) will - because of the rim's width. you're having to fit more rubber onto that area (maybe if you draw it out, you'll see what i mean).

if you don't do much serious riding, you don't have access to 160's, and you love the look of a fat rear, then you can go for the 180.

as for me, when i had my f3, i always rode 160's, i didn't care that i had to custom order them. and it was one hell of a ride.

Thank you for that. It was as I figured. I don't need to put a 180 back there I just ran into a nice deal on them. I only use my f2 for commuting. No hard core riding here. LOL
