Preserving tires

Preserving tires
So I'm about to buy a set of Pirelli Diablo Corsas with the idea of putting them on in the future after I wear down my tires that are currently on my bike. Does the compound or rubber or anything like that on the tire wear down if I were to keep them in my closet for a little bit? Any tire guru have a answer?? Thanks!

RE: Preserving tires
I*m no guru by any means so take the following with a grain of salt but according to that news report a couple of years back, tires should not be used after 6 years as they deteriorate and more prone to blow outs regardless of condition so more important is to check the date of manufacture on the side of the tire as some tires on the shelf have been there a while even when sold as new. If the date of manufacture is relatively recent and you don*t store them for too many years you should be okay imo.

RE: Preserving tires
KB is right. You need to be careful of where you buy your tires as some places will sell a tire that only has a year left on it. We all know most bikes dont go through a set of tires in a year, in fact, I would guess most riders will have that same set of tires for a few years.
just my opinion, unless your getting a smokin deal on a set of tires and they are relatively newly manufactured,I would just wait until its time to change your tires and buy them then.
here is a pic of where the the date is located.
