Two things that I can think of that will make your bike act like this, the tip over sensor you've been hearing about and the safety switch on the kick stand. Check them both. The tip over sensor is there to turn the bike off in the event of a crash, you just lay in down for any reason and I'll assume any sudden shocks (physical, not electrical) to the bike. I've had mine kick in a couple of times and to reset it, you should only have to wait for a few minutes or turn the key on and off several times.

Forgot to say, the the tip over sensor (actually called "bank angle sensor") is ... hell, here's a picture of where it's at.
