please help lost key
You can do one of a few different things. You can call a locksmith and try and have him rekey your existing locks or maybe the dealer can make you a new key from your vin #. I'm not sure on that. You can replace your ignition switch yourself. The complete lock set will run around $200 or so. The best price I found was at Ron Ayers online. The lock set will have the new ignition switch, new trunk lock, new gas cap, and 2 keys. It took me about 4 hours to replace everything. Pick up a haynes manual or FSM and it will help with the process.
book says there is a key number on the ignition swith assembly which should be removed by the dealer, i would look at and see how tough it looks to remove it, if you got some skills[8D], shouldnt be too tough, should just be plastic cover around it and probably two small bolts but dont quote me on this, but the key number is what you need to get a duplicate made, should be a 4 digit #, probably need that and the VIN, maybe bring the title to the honda dealer
I went to take the lock out but the one was to tight to remove so I had to cut it out. Now I have to find a way to remove the piece of the bolt that is stuck. This is turning into a big job I have the entire front half of my bike off now it looks like I have to remove the triple clamp to drill out the bolt. Any tips on getting the bolt out? THANKS
I don't know if they changed between 95 and 98 or not, but I didn't have to drill anything out. The bolts were pretty hard, but I managed. I know on some bikes you actually do have to drill the bolt out though. I'd pick up a factory service manual and see what steps it says.
If you hadn't cut the bolt id say try a craftsman "bolt out" set...but if the remaining piece of the bolt is recessed into the lock or mount, im not sure how your going to get it out other than perhaps drilling it. You might try drilling a pilot hole in the top of the remaining bolt and using a craftsman "screw-out" tool...it is designed to remove stripped out screws...that just might work for you, however, if its bound with a heavy duty loctite you have your work cut out for you. Just some ideas..hope you find a working solution.
