Default pilot screw adjustment

Anyone ever adjust their pilot screws? I sync'd my carbs, and tried to adjust pilots, but they don't seem to make any difference. I just cleaned the carbs, installed K&N and jet kit, new plugs, and adjusted valves, and it seems to run OK, but too much snow to get out of the garage and ride it!!!

Default RE: pilot screw adjustment

Ya I ended up lifting the carbs up and getting the pilot screws right in front of me, it worked well, i just tightened them all the way then backed them out the same amount. (i dont remember how much i backed them out but the service manual says what it should be at) if you have never taken off your carbs before it is really nice to have a service manual to refer to and it can take a couple hours. But it does not make a huge difference, i think i noticed slightly better startup and maybe less gas smell in my exhaust. If you can turn the screws well with a pilot screw wrench then that might be a better way to go, but it was just too hard for me to tell when I was turning the pilot screws. If you think your pilot screws are letting in too much gas I would suggest tightening all screws till they lightly seat then backing out a little.
