Default Painting Tank

This may be a noob question, or a FAQ, but does anyone have a general range on how much it is to get a tank painted? I am getting new fairings, but my old tank is white/purple/yellow... and the new fairings are black and orange. If anyone can help me out i'd really appreciate it! I've been thinking probably just a few hundred bucks, since it is such a small area, but i wanted to get your guys' word first.

Thanks!
Jason

For a quality job, I would expect to pay 3-400, maybe more. The reason I say more is if you want it 2 tone. If you just want it black, expect to pay considerably less than if its more than one color. Most paint shops will have in stock a black that will match. the orange on the other hand will have to be mixed and could get costly. Then the extra time to paint, let it dry, tape it off, paint another color, let it dry, then clear it.

You may beable to have a vinyl decal made that is the same orage as the fairings, then give that to the paint shop and they paint the tank, apply the decal, then clear over that. It would be a bit cheaper.

Well, i'm getting my fairings off ebay, and the seller said he would give me the paint to match free of charge. Will paint shops use paint that the customer provides?

Thanks for you info!

as someone who works for a bodyshop we will use a customers paint but will not warranty it. if you use our paint system ( sikkens best paint out there ) it is a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the heads up! In paint shops, when you do color matching, can you get the colors to basically the exact same shade? Or does it depend where you take it?

Thanks,
Jason

Its going to depend on where you take it. It depends on the painters tinting skills and how much you want to spend. In my opinion use the paint the guy your gettting the fairings from gives you. If its not falling off the fairings you should be fine also prepping the tank before you take it to the shop will save you a bit of money also.
