Default oil sensor

I just bought 88 600 hurrricane.Recently the oil light came on and the engine cut out. Just wondering if there is an oil sensor and it is a safety feature on the bike to prevent the motor from running dry. Should I worry if there is a problem or just add some more oil.

Default RE: oil sensor

There's no engine cutout associated with the oil pressure light. Other than if you run itout of oil then the light will come on and the engine will stop... perhaps soon after.

You haven't said anything about the oil level. Do you know the correct method of determining the correct oil level? If the oil level is OK, then its probably an electrical failure or short or something. If it really has run out of oil, it sounds like you might need some experienced help.(If its run out of oilI wouldn't try restarting the engine before doing some other checks - otherwise you could make the damage a lot worse). Hopeyou don't have an expensive failure there!
