oil pressure light, odd problem
1 Week ago I purchased a 2006 CBR1000RR, bone stock from an older gentlemen(52) w/ under 4,000 miles & it's been well taken care of. Yesterday I was coming down off a large bridge and all the sudden the bike dies. The coolant temp was around 200, which seems so far very normal & on the low side. The bike's got no oil leaks & the sight glass shows it's properly filled. I removed the oil cap to smell for burning, or maybe gasoline.
The engine is very mechanically sound to my knowledge. the bike turns over, has all electrical but will not fire. I begine to check all fuses & they're all fine. next I look for the Oil Pressure sensor & disconnect the wire to it, the light goes off(this may not be a very wise thing to do, but the engine has no odd noises, rough idle, low/bad oil or hesitation). Bike still will not fire up, but after maybe 20 minutes of sitting(battery was weakening), I pull in the clutch(bikes been in neutral entire time) fires right up. check the oil, it's good & ride it home.
I am about to go troubleshoot more, but has anyone heard of the Oil Pres. Sensors going bad? tommarow I'll prolly do oil change but this is odd. Thanks for any help & I'll keep the post updated

well now today i've re-connected the wire & rode a bit, no problems. the light still comes on when the key is on, but not running. This has me puzzled a bit, but tommarow i'll speak w/ honda.
The oil light always comes on if the key is on and not running. It is an oil pressure warning light, meaning you don't have any oil pressure, because the bike is not running. That just means it is working like it is suppose to.
