Default Octane?

When I purchased my 88 CBR1000 the guy mentioned he only ran supreme gas in it. I've been using regular gas and have been wondering what the recommendations are? Would I be better off running the higher octane and are there any long term problems associated with uning the lower octane?

Ummm yeah you are only suposed to use 93. It is not good for it to run lower octane.

There should be some old threads with the research I did on octane ratings. As long as you do not experience any hesitation or knocking upon heavy acceleration then go with what works.

Heck I guess that is true. I am actually running 100 octane right now in my bike.

lowest possible octane without causing predetonation is what you should run.
any higher octane is a waste of money. bike's ECU aren't smart enough to advance timing or pull timing, etc.
so unless tuned for high octane gas or need it to prevent predetonation (carbon deposits, old bike, etc.), then you're wasting money.

Thanks guys. I am experiencing some loping at idle and pre-ignition under a heavy load...guess I'll try to bump up the octane and see if that fixes it.
