Need help re-jetting my 900 RR
I have a 1993 CBR 900 RR; it has a K&N air filter in the stock box and a Yoshi Pipe w/ K&N header. I have a Dynojet Jet Kit for those mods and I would like to install it myself. I am mechanically inclined and like to get hands on but when it's too difficult I'll go to the shop. Can I do this at home? If so, can you help me w/ instrcuctions or advice? Thanks in advance to anybody who responds.
Well, whatI have learned iswhen a higher flow air filteris used, you have more air going in and with an aftermarket exhaust, you have more air coming out. Well, I guess that makes the engine run lean on gas so you have to compensate for the a/f mixture with the bigger fuel jets. It's the same principles on a car. What I mean by running "lean" is that the engine is now being starved of fuel, since it have more air flow it needs more fuel flow.
i know. that's not really what i asked though. i guess my question should reworded... are you SURE you're running lean? i've seen a lot of pipe-and-a-jet-kit installs go south... just understand that higher flow is different than volumetric efficiency. most often than not, jets should remain stock size and the pilots need adjusting instead.
I've done the jet kit to my 95, 900rr. It's a stage 2 i think.. 120 main jets. It helped smooth out the idle and slow speed cruising, the top end may pull a little harder now, not really sure because all i have is an a** dyno. Synch your stock carbs perfect before you go installing a jet kit. It's nearly impossible to properly adjust these carbs after a jet kit is installed. But it may be worth the improvement.
My advice is if your are going to do it yourself.. buy a Honda 900rr tech manual, the oem one. No way will you get it done right without it.
