I drained my battery at my house today...rookie mistake I know. Can I use a car

battery charger to charge it up? I tried to jump start the bike but it didn't work,

now the bike is parked down the block and I live up the block(literally up the

block as in a small hill).

 

yeah you can use a car charger to charge it....but if you tried to jump the bike with a running car theres a chance you may have fried your harness or some other stuff....

 

Typical car charger are 10 to 20 amps ------ too high for a bike

Ya can do it .....just take it off the charger when you figure there's enough charge
to start the bike ......

Best is to use a charger rated @ around 2 amps or less

Bike batteries are a lot smaller than car batteries

Hope when ya jump started it the motor was off in the other vehicle !

 

Yes you can use a car, leave the car off though, it has plenty of charge in the battery for the bike. Learning to roll start the bike is a valuable skill though, there's a good video on YouTube about it

 

By jump start I meant roll start, I misspoke.

 

You can jump start w/ car jumper cables - as said above, just don't start the car.

 

Update 12/2/2011: I attempted to jump start the bike with the car off in the dark with poor lighting. Yes this is bad...the connections got crossed at the car side and I saw a spark on the positive side of the battery on the bike and then nothing...the ignition doesn't turn on, the light...nothing. I'm thinking the worst now. I checked all my fuses and none of them are blown. Could I have possibly fried the harness, electrical system, or just the battery itself? , I'm biting my nails here CBRF. I'm about to head to the parts store to pick up a new battery in hopes I just fried the battery and that is all. Please HELP!

 

check the main fuse. that probably blew.

 

and get a battery tender they are cheap and meant for bikes,

 

Update: 74demon, you were spot on, it was the main fuse. I really dodged a bullet on this one. Whew! Rookie mistake lesson learned, hahaha! I got real intimate with the bike. I took off the seat, tail section, and tank. I even checked and inspected my air cleaner, I'll be needing on soon. Thanks for all the help CBRF!
