i just purchased a 93 DR650 for 500 bucks and the damn engine WILL NOT START! its got spark, compression up the ying yang and i know its getting fuel cause i sprayed starter fluide right in the carb! plus i re-built the carb last night! i am out of ideas... any suggestions??

 

Ok, did it start when you sprayed fuel into it? If not, it is back to ignition.

 

nope! buts its got plenty or spark! so thats why i was stumped...

 

If you have fuel, propercompression and spark (at the right time) it will run. Is tthe spark plug wet? Sooty? If the spark plug is wet, it is not burning off the fuel, by either lack of spark or spark at the right time. If it is dry, it is burning it off or not getting any fuel.

 

i figured it out.. The timing was off.. there was 2 hard spots when i was kickin it and there should only be one.. so im just going to "correct" the timing and i think that will be the ticket!

 

could be a worn cam lobe,opening or closing the valves at the wrong time.........hope ypu figure it out

 

the lobes on the cam are MINT and it wasnt showing any signes that the timing would be off when i took off the cover either.. cause the chain was snug and the lobes were MINT i orderd the service manual for a few days ago so i can do a number on the engine and get it runnen good.. still no luck on starting it thoe..[:@]
