My CBR struggles to start. new starter???
I have a 2004 600rr and when you try to start it it sounds like the battery is weak. it turns the starter very slowly. it has done this since the day i bought the bike but i thought it just had a weak battery. i have since replaced the battery and i did need a new regulator so i replaced it as well. if the bike sits for a while it will usually crank once without much of a problem but u can tell the starter is spinning a little slow. after that when you try to crank it it sounds just like a dead battery, and it will not start the bike. but my battery is fine (when i turn the switch on everything lights up as normal, and i have a toggle switch for my fan and i turn it on and it turns the fan all day with no problems, even when the bike is not running). i dont know if my starter is not engaging correctly or if there is some kind of faulty wiring. i can roll start the bike with ease and it runs perfect. any help would be appreciated. also the bike is for sale!! lol
Do you have a multimeter? You need to check the voltage of the battery. I would do it both with no load and when starting. There are certain voltage parameters for both. If your battery sitting there isn't at least 12.8 iirc volts than the battery doesn't have a full charge. If you try and crank the bike and the battery isn't at least 9.6 volts IIRC, the battery is bad or the starter is drawing a TON of amps, which might be unlikely as I believe they are on a fused circuit.
When you put in the new battery, how did you do the initial charge? Cycle batteries need a very slow charge. More than 1-2 amps charge will ruin it.

i didnt, the guy at batteries plus told me to jsut put it in the bike and the bike would take care of the rest. but turns out i had a bad regulator also. so i replaced that. i think u are right thought, because when i turn the swith on everything seems normal, but when i push the start button it seems like it just loses power for some reason. its really weird, i guess im gonna have to take it to the professionals.

Motorcycle batteries need to be charged for a couple hours after the acid is put in. Make sure that where ever you purchase the battery does this. A place like CycleGear will know to do that. If you call ahead and tell them what you want, they can have it ready for you when you get there. Just a thought.
