Default My bike is leaking gas!

So I just bought an 87 Hurricane. I have my manual on the way along with a few parts. I'm new to the motorbike world so bare with me. The reason I say that is because I have no clue what I'm doing mechanically...YET.

As I wait for my shipment to arrive, I decided to work on my fairings which were spray bombed. I'm in the process of sanding and as I took the left lower cowl off I noticed something odd. I see what looked like a Mitsubishi (Logo was on the part) fuel pump. Pretty much it had a hose attached to the tank, I'm assuming this is the fuel pump right? Anywho, the previous owner I'm assuming put this part in. It is currently wrapped with black electrical tape, why? I don't know...yet.

I then jiggled it around and noticed fuel leaking. So I'm pretty sure this part, whatever it is, is going to have to be replaced, right? If anyone could shed some light on my dilemma I would greatly appreciate it!

The 87 does have a fuel pump. How to fix it is going to depend on where Depending on where its leaking from. It just may be replacing some hose and clamps, or the pump.itself.

Alright I finally got my manual in. It seems to be the fuel pump. It had a rubber covering about half of the pump and when I inspected it the cover was torn. That's probably why the previous owner had wrapped electrical tape around it... so would that mean the pump would have to be replaced or could I somehow find a cover for the pump?

If you're talking about the rubber that wraps around the body of the pump, that is just for vibration isolation. I doesn't have anything to do with the actual operation of the pump. If it's leaking, it's not coming from that. Other than the electrical contacts, there are no really serviceable parts on the pump. See if you can pinpoint the actual source of the leak.

A guy who used to own an f1 (600) has been using a Purolator Pro Fuel Pump #42s for a year without any issues. I might buy it off him, but I'm not sure if it ill work...it's an electric fuel pump I believe and even found a link to the exact product and in the description doesn't say anything about it being used for motorcycles, BUT it states it's for carburated vehicles.

You think this would work?
