Default missing 01 f4i...

ok guys, so i change my oil, put on a new chain, rear sprocket, and change the spark plugs saturday morning early so i can ride all day. well....i get on the road, runs like a scalded dog for 1hr, then developes a miss. so, maybe i got a bad plug....put the old ones back in, no, still missing. replaced the fuel filter, still missing. read on the internet that a few guys has similar issues with bad batteries, replaced the battery, and the damn thing wont start without jumper cables on it now! you can let that brand new battery charge for 30 min and it will not start without jumper cables. (it was starting up fine before and not missing at idle). while the jumper cables are still hooked up, it sounds beautiful! like a brand new bike when you rev it up. but when you un hook them..it all goes to hell! lol

come on guys, im sure im not the only guy that this has happened to right? ideas please im stumped...

ok just got off the phone with the mechanic that i know. he said the same thing. get a voltage regulator. and the missing is prob a bad coil pack. the voltage regulator is prob shot from jumping the bike off with a car. no one told me that you couldnt use a car! lol

reg/recs are very common. check your voltage across the battery @5000 rpm. should be 13.5v to 14.5v. the miss may be a coil, but low system voltage to the electronics can cause the ecu to not fire things.

Although it's not a good idea to do it you can but just be sure the car is not running when you do it. The current produced by a car's charging system is way too high for the bike.

ok guys, a brand new battery (this is number 2 now, the first was bad). and nothing. acts like it doesnt have enough juice to turn the motor over with a full charge. hid's flicker, fuel pump sounds weak, thing wont turn over. i have never seen such. i dont think that first one was bad now, could a voltage regulator be the issue here guys? and also, mine has the voltage rectifier on it, bigger metal think with cooling fins on it. does it also have the little black plastic regulator somewhere else?

Charge the battery. Dont assume because its new that its fully charged. Then put a voltmeter across the battery and check your standing voltage (13v), cranking voltage (10.4v or so min), and charging voltage (13.5 to 14.5). That will tell you where you problem is.
Reg/rec is the same unit.

ok thanks demon! now i checked voltage on the battery before i installed it.....13.1v. so maybe the reg/rec is the issue? or maybe my voltage tester is messed up...lol
