Managing exhaust heat under seat
For those of you riding CBR600RR and the older CBR1000RR where your bike has an exhaust right under your seat, how do you manage the heat streams rising under the seat and slipping up on the side to your butt? The temp went up to 92 F degrees yesterday when I went for a 30 mile ride and my butt felt really steaming halfway through the ride. I had to stand up on the pegs to air it a little every once in a while. I am riding a 2005 CBR1000RR.
I did check that the heat-shields are fine. Previous owner did install a RC-5 Yoshimura slip-on.

I’ve removed my RR5’s under seat heat shield when I installed a tail tidy.
To combat the heat, I installed heat shielding tape to the plastics that had been protected. Even though I reviewed this to the max I didn’t think it would be really effective and would probably fall off in shreads.
When it arrived I was disappointed that it didn’t seem to be that sticky either. Nothing to loose, I patched every inch of the underside. No piece was longer than about 4”. Then went over it again with a different seam, overlaying it. It was very simple to do and probably took about 90mins. My riding buddies were a little shocked when I pointed it out to them but none gave the thumbs down to it, and their not shy about dissing or having a laugh at anything they can that someone’s trying. Looks ok to me.
We have had some decent weather here and the bike has been out in just about the warmest she’s ever gonna see and the tape has been successful both at shielding me and protecting my plastics from any distortion from heat. It has also stayed perfectly secure and intact. I would say though that I don’t know how it would react to a soaking from either rain or washing.
Eventually, if it did start to deteriorate, I’d replace it with the same. Works for me.
Best of luck mate.
