Major Debate.. Need HELP
I am having a debate with a buddy who's going to be getting a brand new Katana600 ... He is saying that there is a break-in which you cant exceed 50mph... Now is that Written or just word of mouth/ opinions... Because,
I have an 05 F4i and I'm looking right in the manual and it says that its 300 miles and to avoid full throttle STARTS and Rapid Acceleration .. (page 208), absolutely nothing about speed or RPMs
So whats the verdict.. anyone able to recite the manual for the Katana 600 ????

I would think its not the speed in mph you're not to exceed, but a certain RPM while in the break in period. might be around 5000 rpm you're not supposed to go past, but I'm not sure. definately tell him to check the manual.
Not going over 50 MPH is plain ridiculous. It's not MPH that matter it's RPM's and as you can see your Honda's owner's manual doesn’t even state RPM limits when breaking in a new engine. How long does he expect to keep it under 50MPH? I bet his manual states close to the same thing as yours.
Everyone has different opinions about breaking in new engines but has anyone ever heard of someone having a problem by following the manual?

A friend who bought a new bandit several years ago said the same thing about not going over 50 for a while. I believe it was a new '01 or '02 model. Maybe Suzuki does things differently in the manual...I'll never find out.
I had a friend just buy a new bike and the numbers are this.
You cant exceed 4000RPM for the first 300 miles and 6000RPM for the next 500 miles. And you have to change the oil after both intervals.
