Default lumpy running

Continuing saga of a slight engine flutter /lumpy running. originally my mech. thought it was worn carbs. Now he's not so sure. Bike has recently been fully serviced and no improvement. He's now thinking that a slight cam chain rattle may be producing the engine flutter. This was noticable in the lower gears at part throttle but is now noticable in neutral at a steady 3000+ revs.
My bike is a 1999 cbr 600 fx with 65,500 miles.

Bike still rideable but i am getting increasing sensitive to this slight problem

Flutter? noticable from the slightly wobbly exhaust note in neutral

Any ideas?

Sounds like the carbs have to be rebuilt. It seems that there isn't a constant delivery of fuel.

sorry fish. if it was anything it would have been a top heavy woman, jogging down the road, not some fat kid. ( i just want to say that i would fully respect that woman for the person she is, not just her physical attributes!

First I would check the ignition timing with a standard titty, I mean timing light. Then I would check the fuel filter and fuel pump.

i would have hoped my Mech. would have checked timing during the service but i will speak to him. The bike runs smooth on tick over so i think the pumps ok. the problem doesn't get progressively worse the more fuel i /it demands. But all ideas welcome. the worry is my mech. will keep trying things until my money runs out!!

Back to the real issue, i've had a new cam chain tensioner fitted, carbs tuned and a new drive chain for good measure. Now running like a new bike....and lov'in it. Smooth as silk and mechanically quiet. Too happy to bother kicking my mechs. butt for letting me go out with badly balanced carbs last time

Thinking about it though, what with a full service, parts and this work its cost about £700 in a couple of months, OUCH.
