Loss of power, bad idle.
I am new to the forum but I have a question on a problem I am having on my bike. I have a 91 600. Just got it a month ago. It starts and runs great until I get on it a bit and take it up past 8k rpm. After slowing down the engine seems to lack power and the exhaust note changes to a lower burble. Seems to miss a little upon acceleration after that and doesn't want to idle at stop signs/lights. Died on me for the first time last night and wouldn't restart. Had to put the choke on full and start it, but the rpm's would climb quicly on their own after starting like I wasrolling onthe throttle. I eventually threw it in first and took off while it was climbing with the choke on and got it home. Seemed to cure it's self by the time I got to the house (which was maybe 3/4 of a mile away). Parked it under the carport and it idled just fine. Help me so I can enjoy riding my bike. Thanks.
after having problems with my bike i can tell you that you need to start small...when were the plugs last changed? did the previous owner store it with a full tank and fuel saver? how many miles are on the bike? have you used all of the "old" gas that was in it when you got it?
you could also have a intermitant problem with your regulator rectifier and or loose battery connections and or bad battery i had a 96 900 rr that would start up run great till i reved it up for a bit turned out that the stator was suckin voltage up and the battery was not charging till i shut it off and restarted it the reason your idle is climbing up is because you choke is on when warm go ahead and charge your battery for a night then go ride it and see how long it takes to act up just dont be ridin too far from home so you dont end up truckin it home if it takes ten or fifteen minutes to act up then go ahead and do a fully charging system check if it doesnt make any difference then go ahead and look at your carbs and plugs and so on just try to do the free stuff first there is a charging system diag thread in the tops section of this forum either way holla back and let us know whats up
Well, I had the bike apart because I was painting and thought I would clean the carbs with some off the shelf carb cleaner. Soaked them real good and made sure to crank on the throttle a few times. Seems to have been the ticket. Don't have any problems and I took it out for about 30 mins today. Thanks for all the help guys.
