Loose chain
 

Bought a 99 f4, chain is pretty loud "loose" and i looked down and its still in the "new zone", 11k miles. Is there a writeup on how to adjust this lil guy :)

Try the search function. Pretty easy though.Just getthe rear tire off the ground with arear stand or jack. Loosen the axle andadjust the tensionbolts on the back of the swing arm.Make sure both sides are even and the chain is straight with the front sprocket. You probably want about 1/2 inch slack(be sure to check it in a few different spots).

If your getting a lot of noise you may also have a dirty chain. I'd clean it up while you got the bike up anyways. Goodluck!

+1 on the cleaning the chain.. i cleaned mine the other day and lubed it back up and it sounds a bit quiter due to it making its cycles around the sprockets smoother.

+2 And a clean chain will make the sprockets last longer because the grit isn't wearing away at the metal.

Chain adjustment is about the easiest thing. If you have the tool kit with the bike, it has the necessary wrenches.

Ajust and lube your chain every 500 miles. I adjust my chain to about 1" of slack. I would think 1/2" is too tight, but I could be wrong. The axle bolt takes a 22mm socket, the axle nut is a 27mm socket, and the chain adjustors are an 8mm socket. You might check into getting one of those roller deals for the back wheel. They are cheaper than buying a rear stand. Good luck.

clean it and lube it up realy good and that should fix the problem!!!!!!
