I recall reading through the bike manual and seeing that it said to keep the kill switch on, and to turn the bike off by turning the ignition to off. I'm wondering why it suggests to do this, instead of hitting the switch. I was also wondering when you would even want to hit the kill switch, given that the manual states not to use it. Im completely aware of what the switch does, just wondering why. Is it simply there for in situations where you'd need to instantly cut power that it's right there by your thumb? What type of situation would you get into that would require an instant engine shutoff?

 

Back in the old days, motorcycles had notorious habits of throttle cables sticking, so the handlebar kill switch was mandated and never changed. That is its real purpose..to kill the motor if the throttle sticks

I know that these switches dont have the highest life expectancy if used frequently. The ignition is the best way to go, just like your car...Its probably better to turn the key off than to pull the wire from the coil to the distributor.

 

I usually turn off my bike by sticking it in first when i park and then lowering the stand which then kills the power. Then i turn the ignition to off and then the kill switch.
Is there anything wrong or harming in turning off my bike with the stand?

 

You are not hurting anything by lowering the stand.
