Default Just put new tire on, can't get bead to sit

Guys,

I put a new tire on my fiancee ninja 250...the bead sits where it should on about half the rim...the other half, the bead is actually touching the other bead...they are too squeezed together.

I think I'll get my ratchet tie downs and strap them around the tire tight, and fill it with air.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks

Usually the bottom tries to seat before I get the top edge over. Have you tried bouncing it all the way around -- ya know, hold it by the center about 6 inches off the floor and bounce it while spinning. Should flatten out. Make sure you keep it soaped up.

Pick up some tire lube - the stuff tire shops use. It helps sometimes to make sure the tire is warm - use a heat lamp or maybe a heat gun. Also make sure you've cleaned off the rim well before trying to put the new tire on.

Edit: Oh, for Pete's sake, I should learn to read the post all the way through instead of answering the wrong question. Your idea of a strap around the tire is okay, but be sure you release it as soon as you have enough air in the tire to hold the bead agains the rim. In fact, as soon as the bead touches you should stop putting air in until you release the strap. Tire shops used to use an inflatable hose to do the same thing, and deflate it as soon as the bead seated. My advice above still stands, by the way.

I vote to not vote and try the strap idea.

ok guys, got it.

I put the tie down around the perimeter of the tire, cranked her down and threw some air in it.

After 10 psi, I loosened the straps, and after 30 psi, i finally got the troublesome bead in the one spot to push out.

All is well!

Thanks

RE: Ninja250 - swing into ninja250.net and say hi... lots of 250 resources there... and the FAQ is getting REALLY good.

What tires did you end up putting on?
