2002 CBR 954 with 32K miles. Within the past six months it will usually not shut off (but sometimes will) when it is in gear when I put the side stand down. I just replaced it with a used switch but have the same issue. It's not a problem for me but it needs to work for the state inspection next month. I'm terrible at diagnosing (and with wiring diagrams) so I am looking for some suggestions on what to check next. I did check and clean the two ground wires at the engine block near where the switch (and other wires) connects to but it didn't look to be too corroded. Everything else electrical works fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Steve

 

During the times when it doesn't turn off while in gear and you put the side stand down, does the Side Stand light turn on ? What about the Neutral indicator, is that going out when you put it into gear ?

 

I just did a cold start and tried to start it in first with the stand down - wouldn't start. Started it in neutral then put the kick stand down (while in first gear) - engine stopped. Did that another time and the engine stopped. Restarted a third time but then the side stand had no effect - I could start in first gear and when I put the side stand down while in fist gear the engine kept running. I do get the neutral indicator light. I don't think I have a side stand light - or is it the neutral light turning from green to red?
