Default How "safe" is it to get parts off Ebay??

Hello,

The battery on my F4i is dead and the CCT is starting to rattle. I'm also broke and short on cash these days so I was thinking about getting parts off Ebay and doing the work myself. My problem is how "safe" is Ebay and is it worth it getting a battery and/or manual CCT from an Ebay seller?

eBay is great for the consumer side. If there's anything wrong at all, eBay will go to great lengths to help you. As far as the CCT, I'd go with a reputable one like the APE. Check local for a battery, you'd be surprised at how many cheap batteries they stock at dealerships and parts shops to compete with the online guys.

WHat he said +1111

Ordered over a dozen parts on ebay, never an issue. Apes are decent I guess. But I hear now that the replacements are the ones that are a fix (meaning they fixed the part) of the old OE parts. Being as it was such a common problem on the F4's.

And since you have an F4i like myself, I Just paid like 55 dollars for a brand new Scorpion Ytz10s, which is your battery. I got mine from batterystuff.com Now there are ones on ebay for like 25-40 dollars I believe but I honestly heard bad stories about those ones lasting even as little as one season or less. Also heard where they went a few years so long as they were constantly hooked up to a tender. I decided to save and pay the commonly priced 60 bucks and get one with people talking about 3+ years of battery use. In upwards of 5 is not uncommon with proper battery charging.

Some more food for thought. A lot of batteries come out of the same plant and are just rebadged as different names. I have spoke with numerous people about it. More than likely if you are looking at batteries with the close prices you are going to notice a trend.

I agree with everyone that has already posted. EBay is fine for parts. Most of mine, New and used, came from there. Major and or mechanical I always get reputable brands. Some things you just don't want to chance. I've found you can usually tell how your chances are going to be by the response of a quick email to the seller. Kinda easy to tell if they know what they are talking about and what not. As for the battery, I have a cheap 40 dollar battery from Wal-Mart and it had lasted over a year. I only expected a couple months but it has surprised me.

Perfectly safe. Just check at the sellers feedback and pay with PayPal and your covered.

Pretty much what everyone else said. The last MC battery I got was $40ish from Advanced Auto. Zero shipping and a no-questions-asked return policy makes it a no-brainer to not buy local.

Seeing as how a CCTL failure will most definitely be catastrophic, I wouldnt touch a cheap or used one with a 10ft pole. I would just as soon put my bike away till I can afford a proper one.

I'm not able to buy parts for my 1000F from local suppliers.
Everything comes from e Bay, and I've never had a problem.
I'd be more careful on secondhand mechanical parts like camchain tensioners or reg/rectifiers but I've had great service over the past 10 years.

I can buy plugs locally, but it's cheaper and quicker to import them from Ireland INCLUDING postage.!
Makes no sense unless you understand how we get ripped off for spares here !
