(HESD) HONDA ELECTRIC STEERING DAMPER
Hello Forum,
I ride an 2007 CBR 1000.
I am an old school rider, Honda 90's, 125's. 175's 350's. 450;s. 550/750 fours, Kawi 2 stroke Mach 3, Gold Wings, Triumph 650, Kawi KZ 650, 1000, etc..I am not trying to impress, not even close, but rather trying to lay a credible groundwork for the story of a technical "save".
The story is this. The Honda Electric Sterring Damper on my CBR saved my Butt. For those of you who have experienced a "tank slapper" you know the "Oh ****" factor that immediately follows when the handle barspivotfull left and right after a wheeliewhen the front wheel hits the pavement when it is way off alignment with the direction of travel.
A couple of days ago I was riding home from the grocery store with a small grocery bag on my gas. The bag slipped off to the left. I grabbed it out of instinct with my left hand and hung on to the the throttle with my right. As I was pulling a wheeliewith my righthand the steering went full right (duh) at which point Iwas able to hang on to and twist back the throttle. The front wheel then hit the pavementat, of course. full right, the tank slap wasinstantand I justknew I was going to hit the pavement as the wheel then went full left. Then, just as I was preparingto roll along federal highway in Fort Lauderdale the handlebarsafter going fullleft went 3/4 right and then, as if a miracle, went back to center! I kid younot. I rode through the event as if if never happened. The damper worked and saved me huge!! There is NO question in my mind that the damper saved me. Before you call me an idiot please think throuh this scenario. It can happen to you no matter how good of a rider you are!

+1. The challenge is just staring you in the face- you have to prove yourself!
Seriously, I love the HESD. It keeps a more "solid" ride as compared to my 900RR, especially at high speeds. Luckily, I have never experienced a tank slapper(and I hope i never do).
