Bad starter? What was the unfortunate sequence of events that led to your dilemma? Now sit down, relax and start from the beginning.

A 30 amp fuse will blow because the draw is more than 30 amps. Are you confident the starter isn't doing something it shouldn't ? other than that a simple short somewhere. There aren't many places for 30 amps to go on a bike.

You could either have a loose/coroded (bluish gunk that builds up on certain connections that can jump voltage from one wire to another) ground wire and it is an itermitant connection problem causing a sudden draw of volts/amps which will cause the fuse to blow. Make sure all your connections to the starter are good, clean and tight (to start with). Otherwise, it is a short circuit. There is no real easy answer to locate it. Start with one circuit/wire and check it from start to end. Look for a part of the frame or a bolt that has rubbed through the wire's insulation, causing a short.

For that particular circuit (according to the manual) the starter relay and main fuse has connections to/from the BATTERY, STARTER MOTOR, CLUTCH SWITCH, STARTER SWITCH, REGULATOR/RECTIFIER and a circuit to the diode to/from the nuetral safety switch. Good Luck and let us know what you find.
